This room is a prime example of what happens when I go Pinterest/Blog crazy with ideas and Rich makes them come to life with his carpentry skills.
The dining room was the first room we attacked when we moved in. The room was originally shown to us as a potential home office, but we knew we would make it a dining room. I had found pictures of these pipe shelves on different blogs and was immediately smitten. In all the pictures I found, they were being used as bookshelves but I thought it would be awesome to build ours in the dining room and be able to put all of the beautiful wedding gifts we received on display instead of hidden away in a cabinet. Also, the room is super tiny so open shelving was a good alternative to a hutch or credenza for us.
I planned out the shelf layout and Rich got to work. After he was done we decided we definitely needed a new table and chairs to go along with the shelf. Naturally he wanted to build it, but I wasn't sure of the style just yet.
Then while pouring over one of my favorite blogs, a house in the hills (by photographer Sarah Yates, who to me is the epitome of someone with great style) I came across her amaze dining room table. I showed it to Rich and with a little tweak of the table legs and the addition of a matching bench, we had our new table!
The rest of the room just came together organically and I couldn't be happier with the results! The paint color, -which I agonized over- is Dolphin Fin by BEHR. The rug was a sweet score from our local HomeGoods, the light is CB2, and the mirror is Crate & Barrel (similar-ish here & here.)
And then there are the chairs. Rich wasn't really sold on them when I first started showing them to him, but he gets it now. I think they compliment the shelving and table perfectly and I love them even though they're knock offs (one day I will own authentic ones!)

So there you have it, our first room that is 100% complete! Now we're all set to host our very first Thanksgiving later this year and I can't wait!
