The first thing Rich and I did when we decided we were going to pull the house from the market was catalogue what projects we were going to want to do now that we were staying. This ended up being a weird process for a few reasons. One, was once we started talking about what we would like to do, we discovered how many things we might have done differently during our first three years here, or things we would have done earlier in our tenure if we knew we were staying longer. We also made a decision to stop letting the question "Is that too much for this house?" dictate a lot of our decisions. Previously, we made a lot of choices based on if we felt it would be "worth it" for resale and also based upon our neighborhood. With Rich being a contractor, we have the ability to do a lot of work for no labor cost, so I'm (I mean we) are gong to take full advantage and do some projects that we can really enjoy the end result of during our stay in this little abode.
So, without further adieu, THE LIST:
1.) Dormer upstairs -- adding 2 (or 3) bedrooms and 1 (or 2) baths
2.) Build out over garage to create a living/family room with gas or electric fireplace --- yay!
3.) Re-tile the kitchen floor because A.) It was done incorrectly and drives Rich nuts and B.) It's heinous and drives me nuts
4.) Paint kitchen cabinets! YAAASSS! I've been asking for this for YEARS and have finally be given the green light AKA Rich had to buy a professional paint sprayer for a job and VOILA! Chrissy reaps the benefits!
5.) Convert from oil heat to gas heat and get central a/c. Buh-bye window units!
6.) Finish the basement, FINALLY.
So there you have it. These are pretty much the main projects we would like to accomplish, hopefully most of them this year! Ambitious, right?! Then of course there are little things like a changing the kitchen backsplash, adding a garage door opener, new dishwasher, painting the front door, etc., etc., etc., that we will fill in between the biggies mentioned above. So it looks like it's going to be a pretty busy rest of 2016 over here, but we're up to the task and can't wait to enjoy the end results.
First up.....see ya kitchen floor!
